Do not insure your bicycle with this company. Sundays Insurance is the consumer-facing brand. Red Sands Insurance Company (Europe) Limited is the underwriter. This review applies to both — they operate as one. My bicycle (high value S Works SL8) was stolen from my workplace. I had locked it to a fixed post with an approved lock. I reported it to the police, to my employer, and filed a claim the same day. Red Sands declined the claim. They argued the lock was not engaged at the point of theft — it was, but released through an unexpected chain of events outside my control. They then accused me of dishonesty because I initially named the wrong lock — an honest mistake I corrected immediately. They invoked a fraud exclusion over it. I provided a witness statement, pushed my employer and the police to share CCTV, and gathered every piece of evidence I could. Red Sands used every procedural angle available to avoid paying out. It took eighteen months, a formal complaint, and the Financial Ombudsman issuing a final decision to force Red Sands to accept the claim. The ombudsman rejected both of their grounds for declining — the security condition and the dishonesty allegation — and ordered them to pay out plus compensation. Red Sands objected. The ombudsman dismissed their objections and confirmed the decision unchanged. Eighteen months of correspondence, evidence-gathering, and emotional energy — while working full-time as a doctor — for an insurance company to do the one thing it exists to do. An honest correction about a lock became a fraud allegation. A stolen bicycle became an ordeal. Do not use Sundays Insurance or Red Sands for bicycle insurance.
