PATHETIC AND INCOMPETANT

With any modern bank I can open a Savings Account online in minutes or even seconds but not with Birmingham Midshires. I applied online to open a Savings Account with B M on 8th November 2017, but was told that within the next few days I would receive a letter with instructions on how to complete the application . A letter duly arrived asking for a cheque from my linked account and Proof of Identification in the form of an original bank statement not more than 3 months old. Like a lot of people I operate paperless banking, so I had to go to my bank and ask for a certified copy of a recent statement. This was all done and sent back by return...........SEVEN WEEKS later I finally received a letter dated 28th December “Welcoming me to my New Savings Account”. When I did try and telephone I was put through to an adviser who sounded like a robot with no communication skills whatsoever. BM are truly fresh out of the ark. Having finally connected to my account online, I was presented with pages that gave the appearance of being designed by a child. But on reflection perhaps a modern child would have done a better job!! I gave one star as there isn't a lower option. Perhaps the Directors of BM should finally start taking notice of all the negative feedback that they are receiving. As part of the Lloyds Banking Group they should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. Read more Read less

My parents have been with them for decades and have relied on them for their easy access savings, so when they launched a best buy easy access rate of 1.45% last year I jumped at the chance of opening one as these type of accounts don't stay around for long. It was also a guaranteed rate for twelve months and not variable like most; though once the year is up you have to make sure you change it to their next best. They notify you within 60 days to warn you however. Apart from that, I have found their customer service to be excellent, ( very friendly, professional and efficient) every time I've had to contact them. I also like the fact that you can make faster payments in and out of the account which credits or debits by the close of business the same day or you can set up a payment in via direct debit out of your nominated account instead. Good old fashioned reliable savings. I'll definitely be maintaining a relationship with them and can confidently recommend them to others. Read more Read less

I was told that the funds were going to be transferred to my linked account by midnight the same day, and guess what? the transfer didn't happen. I've just been told they don't know why, but it will happen today no confidence at all in them as a company. Don't waste your time, effort or energy. Go elsewhere Read more Read less

I had been speaking for quite some time on behalf of my mother to this company regarding her mortgage having complied with all power of attorney legalities initially. Today when I called, I had been told by a chap that he does not know who allowed me to speak on my mother's behalf as I am not on their system as being holder of the Power of Attorney - SHOCKING and ALARMING! anyone can speak on your behalf and they wouldn't even bother checking! beware of this company, the staff do not care! - also, they are extremely understaffed and most of the time, only the underqualified speak to you since the qualified are scarce. We had a matured fixed-rate account with BM, but rates offered for new fixed-rate accounts were derisory. They were offering easy-access account at 1.3%, but this was online. and I felt uncomfortable having a large sum of money online in an easy access account. However, when phoning them they said we could have the same rates for the same account, accessing through the post. We have decided to do this, and when/if interest rates increase we will be able to review. Read more Read less

My husband and I have held fixed-rate savings accounts with BM, quite simply because their accounts are simple to set up and use, and their interest rates are usually competitive. We currently hold a 2 year fixed-rate account, earing 2.10%, which at the time of opening was one of the best interest rates available. Paperwork is sent through the post with statements informing you of interest added, and customers are advised in plenty of time when the account is nearing maturity. You are also given several options to choose a new fixed rate account, withdraw a cheque, or other options. Very simple and straightforward; the only downside to the account is that online facilities don't seem to be available, making it impossible to check the account throughout the term. Overall recommended, good solid and competitive account. Read more Read less
