Good experience generally but their investment strategy is unethical.

Overall a good, safe bank... but their investment strategy invest in some very unethical indices and listings. If you're ethically conscious then stay clear of HSBC.

Sometimes I took much more time only for login; Sometimes I failed to login and I have to go to a branch; Sometimes a lot of branches close (ex, Kings Cross branch); Sometimes transferring my money to another bank with my name need a secure check. And always, you can never successfully give a call to HSBC customer service. In all, HSBC is now a title that will be gone in the near future.

I was asked to go through a customer info review. The most stressful thing I've done all year. Their information on the signatories hadn't been updated, despite submitting change of name forms, marriage certs and a death cert etc. Because their info was incorrect I could not talk to advisors as I could not provide up to date info. I was told wrong information by online chat advisors, told the account would be closed with little notice. The account had been a free of charge community account for 20 + years, then without warning it became a fee paying business account. Unable to talk to anybody again because they still don't hold the correct info. Branches didn't want to know. Absolute shambles. Now going through switching service to new bank which will ptibably fail because HSBC haven't updates. Rude and unhelpful on the very rare occasion that I have got through. Shocking.

Their safeguarding team close account with no notice and freeze your money. You can’t pay wages, suppliers but they keep accepting payments in! Hold on phone for 2 hours plus. No email response. HSBC cause detrimental losses to your company and mind.

awful draconian bank with no urgency for customers time.

This bank think it is acceptable to not give easy access to account details and think it is ok to have you on hold forever!! trying to run a business here! They rely on the amount of hassle caused by changing bank.

I bank with HSBC in the US and UK (I need a bank that will give me both). Service is indifferent with most branches closing in US. It is slightly redeemed by a good internet banking site. However, as a Premier customer, I have to transfer funds between my own accounts from UK and US. HSBC takes a whopping margin or spread of 3.25% over the market exchange rates which is more than many credit cards take. I wrote to them about it but received a letter basically saying they could not discuss it due to "commercial sensitivity". At 3.25%, doesn't seem very sensitive.

OVERALL RATING ZERO - WILL NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL!
HSBC applied £1000 chargeback to business card - I had to visit the branch twice and after a month managed to get them to put the £1000 back on the card account then take it out again and then pop it back in again. Redid online banking security process twice and now when they ask for my sort code, account number and dob the response it these details are not recognised. Oh and now they have blocked the card (fraudulent transaction) - fair enough and sent me a new card, new details, etc, BUT IT IS BLOCKED TOO! Will have to visit the branch again and listen to them dialing the same number I have to dial (no internal comms ?!?!?) and wait for the same menu etc etc. Utterly unbelieveable. In most cases to date when I get through on a call back on the phone I am passed to different parties on average three times. Each time requests authorisation and then passes me on again - I have been with HSBC 21 years and wil be moving to NatWest - free online service that moves your accounts in seven days!

living abroad and could not change mail address because you cannot do it over the phone and could not go in to branch because I am overseas. Account inactive so they decided to close it and send me a cheque to an old address because I had been unable to change my address. had to wait 90 minutes to speak to someone, never mind the cost of the call from Australia. No real resolution to the situation. Even if the cheque has not been fraudulently cashed (they could not tell me) they will issue another and I will not have a bank account to pay it into. Lots of apologies from the agent but the service is terrible and it is not fair that they put their staff on the front line to deal with this nonsense

I wanted to open a HSBC Premier Account, but was told by the branch it would be easier to open a classic account first. I did this online, and after no response for 2 weeks - I discovered they had cancelled my application. The branch staff couldn’t even understand why.

When they phoned me to setup the Premier Account, they told me that since I was an existing customer, I had to show that I paid my salary into the existing account. As I would not be paid for another 4 weeks, the application would be put on hold.

Nowhere does it say this on the HSBC website. It says you can open a Premier Account in the branch - you cannot. It says you can pay your salary into the Premier Account - you can’t, as you have to prove that you qualify by paying into another account. It says you must phone to open a joint account - you don’t.

Not even HSBCs staff knows how the Premier Account works. I have now told them that I won’t be continuing with the application, and will be staying with my current bank.

I’ve been with HSBC for my personal account since it took over the Midland Bank. I’ve had my business account for over 15 years. They’ve closed so many branches it’s ridiculous, leaving me with a choice of 2 branches. 2 weeks ago I went to the most local bank…. It was shut for ‘refurbishment’…. Couldn’t they have done that BEFORE they shut several other local branches? Today I went to pay in my cash and cheques and get some change for my small business and they were open, yaaaay! I don’t know what’s been ‘refurbished’, other than the lack of bank tellers. YES, they are a bank that now NO LONGER TAKE CASH OR CHEQUES! No teller services AT ALL…. But hang on, I can pay in at the Post Office. So I’m paying for a business bank account from a ‘bank’ that no longer offers any banking services I need…. 15 years loyalty…. Bye bye HSBC, I’m very disappointed that you’re forcing people in to a digital world when so many people still deal with cash.

Avoid this bank at all costs. Closed all of my accounts without notice when they finally realised that THEY had made an error (after being told immediately) on my bounceback loan 1 year earlier. Put CIFAS markers against me stating no intention to repay when I had already started to repay the loan which is just malicious!!! Refuse to acknowledge their mistakes and refer you to the Ombudsman instantly without investigating customer assertions. They know they are making mistakes but are not bothered and prefer the lazy route of complaint investigation via the Ombudsman. The Account Recovery Team are ignorant and are not prepared to listen. Quality of replies including grammar are poor, as is the quality of staff they employ obviously. Ironically this Bank is accused of fraudulent dealings on a very regular basis. It’s only a matter if time before they are made to pay for their conduct.

I disputed a payment and sent in any relevant attachments to support my case. I was credited the amount back to my card. Now the amount has been debited again with no explanation. Spoke to customer services yesterday, who placed me on hold for over an hour and left me hanging I had to cut off and call again. This time I went though security was told to hold while they investigated my query, 20 mins later the representative came back to go through security again? And then said okay I'll stick you on hold and go and investigate.... is it just me or is this shocking customer service. I said I wanted to log a complaint, this was ignored, I was told can't investigate right now as can't get through to the department and that she would call back once she gets through the whole day passed and I received no call. I called at 8.45 am this morning again and the same has happened again I've been on hold for over 2 hours 30 mins and I'm still on hold... nobody is taking ownership nobody wants to help it's all passing customers around here there and everywhere. I've been with the bank for years spend and paid hundreds of thousands of pounds with them if this continues I will have to close my holdings and move to another bank with customers at the heart of there business. I'm shocked and I don't have words to describe how disappointed I am with HSBC

A disorganised mess

Mostly awful.... Read more

Mostly awful.

The app is hard to use. Getting through to the bank takes ages every time. Most departments don’t know where their responsibility ends and another begins. Each department doesn’t know what other departments do.

Mostly the staff are lovely though and doing their best.

I am now resorting to capitals. AT THE MOMENT I’M TRYING TO CLOSE MY BANK ACCOUNT AND THEY HAVEN’T CLOSED IT IN SIX WEEKS. APPARENTLY THERE’S A QUEUE. NEITHER HAVE THEY SENT ME THE THOUSANDS OF POUNDS IN MY ACCOUNT THAT I NEED TO PAY FOR THINGS.

NEITHER WILL ANYONE TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS AND THEY CAN’T CALL ME BACK AS THEY DON’T MAKE OUTGOING PHONE CALLS

Seriously hopeless. Avoid.
