Applied online for a business account on Aug 3

Today is 5th of September. Account is not yet open. If you call them prepared to wait for at least 15 minutes until you can reach someone.

Presumably they have some serious issues in their process. More than 30 days to open an account is unacceptable in any circumstances. Presumably once you are a customer the problems are going to intensify.

HSBC is the worst bank that I have ever come across. The credit card department is useless and hopeless. I have logged couple of complaints on 14th Aug and till now (24th Aug) no communication even if I have chased them 6-8 times with 45 mins discussion each time. Every time, I received false commitment from CC folks, their manager and next level manager as well. It such pathetic situation. DONT ever…ever. and ever go for their service .. be it credit card or account opening or anything else

This is specifically about business banking I have had a personal current account for decades that is fine. Applying for a business account made sense as all the family have presonal accounts with HSBC. The application process is so glitchy it beggars belief- I had to keep chat on and use it constantly for the process which took days and days because of the problems. Then they wouldn't accept their own bank statements as address proof so it was turned down- after telling me they would. A business advisor was not available in my central London location so I attempted to get an appointment elsewhere and the wait was two months. These applications time out after one. A regular advisor couldn't help though she did explain that the application was rejected due to using an HSBC statement. We tried using a tax notification as instructed next. It did not say anywhere that this could not be self assessment. So it was rejected again. Since the person n question is self employed and applying for a bank account as a sole trader it would appear a bit illogical to expect another ind of tax notification. Instead of applying for tax credits as advised, or a drivers license or putting said persons name on the council tax bill we are simply applying to another bank. I actually spent all of one day once trying to get through on the phone without luck. This is days and weeks of my life I can never get back, and the advisors while pleasant repeatedly gave me wrong advice. I am planning to also move all of our personal accounts now, this was such a bad experience, and it makes me think having the account could never work either.

My partner and I were first time buyers looking for a fixed mortgage rate and HSBC were offering a great deal. We asked for information and help on how to apply for the mortgage and the lady we dealt with was very helpful giving us loads of information. Staff were friendly and advised us every step of the way. We secured the mortgage and HSBC were always there to answer our questions and when we finally moved into our house we got a lovely card from the lady who had helped us process our mortgage. They offered us exceptional and friendly service.

We applied to HSBC for a mortgage last October. We took the option of using the online method as we were told this would be easiest. Oh what a joke that was. We uploaded everything asked of us, then about a week later we received a letter asking us for the same documents. We contacted them and they told us to ignore it. Two weeks went past with no update, so we logged in to find a message telling us we needed to upload our documents. We called and this time were told that they'd sent a letter and we'd ignored it. We explained we'd been told to, but they said this was wrong, they needed us to send our documents as they'd been lost. We uploaded them again, then a week later we got a letter asking us to upload our documents. The same process happened again - ignore it. Fast forward two months with the same process happening over and over again. Eventually we were passed to an assessor, who asked for more documents. We sent these, waited some more then logged in again. To our horror, our application was marked 'expired'! We called again to be told it had taken too long and we needed to begin the whole process again! Meanwhile our vendors were getting extremely impatient. We were told this would be fast tracked, so we did everything again, were told it was sent to an advisor and the next time we logged it the entire application was marked cancelled. We never did hear from anyone! Serious, do not waste your time! They'll lose you your house.

I have banked with HSBC for many years and find that banking has become a lot easier in recent years with online banking and apps, both of which are easy to use with HSBC. HSBC branches are widespread making it easy to pop into a branch if needed, however I have found recently that if you go into a branch with a query they direct you to telephone banking. This is my biggest gripe with HSBC as the telephone banking service is awful and I dread needing to contact them by phone. The service is clearly based abroad and it always seems to be a terrible line making conversations extremely difficult and frustrating. Several negative experiences with this have left me looking at switching banks, it's only because I've been with HSBC for so many years that I haven't yet made the switch but I'm sure there are better services out there.

Extremely Fast and Cheap

Received lowest interest of 3.3%. Money was in my bank account instantly (!). I've done this before with HSBC before and actually paid off my loan early with a cash lump sum and the service was fantastic and easy. My credit rating is about 990 or so...

Received lowest interest of 3.3%. Money was in my bank account instantly (!). I've done this before with HSBC before and actually paid off my loan early with a cash lump sum and the service was fantastic and easy. My credit rating is about 990 or so out of 999 and income is high.

I am extremely disappointed in HSBC Premier service. I am a multi-account holder in various jurisdictions and was just almost berated by the most rude service agent after forgetting to make one credit card payment, all other payments having been made always on time. From a super aggressive tone to accusing me of having financial problems - it's almost as if I was dealing with a payday credit company not a banking service for high net worth individuals. UNBELIEVABLY SHOCKING.
