Never had any real issues with HSBC

I'm happy with HSBC customer service and using their mobile app, which is convenient for quickly checking my balance and transferring money is straight forward. If I ever need to get any help with setting anything up, I've always received quick and professional...

Loyalty not important

I had my HSBC current account for over 21 years and during her time took out loans and stayed in credit 99% of the time. Basically I think I was quite a good customer of the bank and I even introduce them to my wife so that she could open her account with them. However this year I decided to shop around and see if I could get a slightly more favourable deal. Co-op were offering £150 to switch so I went to my bank and asked them if they would match that. They weren't interested even though they were offering £200 to new customers. I ended up having quite a long chat with somebody at HSBC customer services about the unfairness of offering financial incentives to new customers but not being prepared to do anything for existing customers of 21 years standing. In the end it seems that loyalty has no value any more, and I will probably switch from Bank to bank in the future as long as they are incentivising me to change. I think this is a shame as I would rather have continued a long-standing relationship with a bank but in the end Money Talks.

I recently had to take out a loan in order to learn to drive. I was very nervous about the whole thing as I'm not one to borrow money and my knowledge of finances and lending money is minimal. I was put at ease very quickly. I applied for my loan online, it was so easy! There was no intimidating terminology, and the process was really quick!

HSBC sent us a KYC pack to fill in, in spite of us having been customers for over 20 years. We had just moved house and explained than we did not yet have the required utility bills to provide them with proof of address. They froze the account, stopped an incoming deposit and bounced all the direct debits. Customer services just kept repeating the same nonsense about their procedures. We closed the account. HSBC refused to transfer the direct debit details to our new account, saying we still had not complied with their KYC procedures. I will never recommend them to anyone.
