Been banking with HSBC for many years before switching and they were very good. Always a freindly voice at the end of the phone and always able to help me with all enquiries big and small. I was however disapointed when I visted a branch to close an account, after i left thinking all was sorted it only came to my attention 6 months later that in fact they hadn't closed the account which amouted to some charges my way which is currently in dispute. Other than this one incident i was very happy with there service and would still recomend them.

When I was a student in University I was able to apply to get a student account which allowed me to have an £1000 interest-free overdraft. This was very helpful as I was able to dip in and out of my overdraft for things like extra food, cheeky booze, partying and nights out, and trips back and forth home. I wouldn't have been able to do that otherwise, so thank you HSBC for allowing me to do that!

extremely unhelpful, rude customer service agents who do not appear to listed to your issues but just repeat platitudes from a script. We had an issue where cash paid in at a branch "disappeared" for over 2 weeks, during which time outgoing payments were bounced and we incurred bank charges. We had to fight tooth and nail to get reimbursed, they refused to admit the error was theirs. Dreadful service.

Have banked with HSBC for 20+ years now and have never had a problem with them, they have always been very keen to help resolve any issues and have offered great borrowing options when needed.

My only negative would be that they are behind on new technologies a little. Some of the newer online banks offer much more innovation in banking, though i appreciate these things take time to role out when you are as big as HSBC. So heres hoping we will see them soon
