Been a loyal customer for 22 years paying their advance account fees after they took me of of their premium account, several years ago. Contacted them today to use their RAC breakdown cover for the 1st time, started well as RAC mechanic arrived and established the car needed to be recovered, and reported to head office before 10am. Then waited on side of road until 6.30 pm before recovery arrived. Told time after time it would be 2pm then 3pm then 5pm then 5.30 etc until a none stand in recovery arrived, who said they had only been booked at 1.40pm and they have a 4 hour response time agreement with RAC, therefore why were they not booked at 10am when the 1st responder said we needed full recovery. No one could give me a reason, grateful to be home but customer service very poor and RAC should stand for Recovery Always Crap.. Reviewed on: 24th October 2024

Terrible car breakdown service. Waited over 12 hours !!

RAC awful !! Do HSBC know what a crap service they offer.? We were left waiting for over 12 hours, being told they had upgaded our priority only to be told it was another 4 hour wait. Then their sister company said they would come get us,another 2 hour wait to then be told he could only take us some of the way !! We were left at another services . Felt abandoned and certainly not s recovery service as you would expect. Reviewed on: 8th October 2023

AT THE AGENCY, CHAT SUPPORT OR CALLCENTER ANYBODY TO CANCEL A DUPLICATE PAYMENT/TRANSFER. WHEN I FINALLY MANAGED TO SPEAK ON THE PHONE I HAD THE IMPRESSION THAT I WAS TALKING TO AN INDIAN SCAM...I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND A WORD AND I WAS AFRAID TO GIVE MY DETAILS. AFTER 4DAYS THE TRANSFER WAS MADE. NOW I AM ASKED TO PAY FOR THEIR INCOMPETENCE AND DELAYED SYSTEM 25P. Reviewed on: 9th May 2023

Poor Service from HSBC and the RAC

3 days to get my McCartney home. You pay the HSBC but they do not investigate, the provider of the poor service do the the investigation the HSBC just takes your money. Reviewed on: 25th January 2023

absolute disgrace

My son has broken down today and called the breakdown assistance over 5 hours later he has still not received any assistance! this is shambolic service and an absolute disgrace! Shame on you HSBC and the agents you appointed (RAC) hang your heads in shame. Reviewed on: 14th September 2021

Poor service

Called for breakdown rescue since 12.15 today and eight hours later and I am still waiting. From light to dark and feeling really vulnerable. HSBC uses RAC and RAC sent texts every 30 mins but nothing happened except apologies. Waiting now more than eight hours and exceptional poor service Reviewed on: 26th September 2020

Be very careful with the HSBC Advance breakdown cover

The extras on the Advance account need to be treated with caution, particularly the breakdown cover. I broke down at 9.30pm in a dangerous spot and despite the initial person I spoke to saying I would get priority treatment - as my daughter was with me who has mental health problems - they eventually sent a contractor out at 12.30. Over THREE hours later. When i called back I kept getting a different story. Not sure about being a fully-fledged RAC member, but the HSBC breakdown service has really gone to the dogs since they got involved. Disinterested, sleepy sounding call centre staff, just rubbish. Sounds like RAC is fobbing HSBC customers off with a really crappy package, and HSBC doesn't care as we all cough up every month for this so-called benefit. Reviewed on: 8th August 2019
