The Calculator is good and is great how you can create different scenarios with clients to make sure that they are making the best financial descions for their households. However the system is expensive in comparison to other platforms and is not always accurate and while the team are very open to feedback, they are not benefit experts, so do not always understand some compleities when calculating some benefit entitlements Reviewed on: 28th April 2026

every penny count , this tool really help

i complete better off calculators all time when completing job applications for people to help them understand how much better off they will be in employment , along with if they are missing out on claiming benefits such as council tax support child benefit , mortgage interest paid , pip etc , the service is so easy quick and simple to use takes around 15 minutes if have all information such a useful tool highly recommend it . A very comprehensive tool...

I have used the Better off Calculator for 6 years, since it was brought in at Rotherham Council, to assist my customers to see how they will benefit from moving into employment. It has been very useful in identifying benefits the customers may not have been claiming but were possibly entitled to. I like it because you can use it simply to do this, but also because you can work through a detailed budgeting exercise with a customer which can help to identify areas where the customer could make savings.
