£500 cover but I was refused emergency costs.

1
My travelling companion, my cousin, lost her passport so we were stuck in Cape Town and our cruise ship sailed without us. This left us scrambling to find emergency accommodation etc. It took us three days to get an emergency passport. My cousin covered essential costs in Cape Town and I then covered our necessary disrupted travel costs to get us from CapeTown on the Monday to Richards Bay to be able to board our cruise ship before it left South African waters on the Wednesday. I had to pay £560 for a flight to Durban, a two hour taxi trip and our emergency overnight accommodation and food. AllClear refused to cover any of these costs. They said only my cousin could claim for passport lost costs. She was only able to claim a maximum of £500 for monies spent on emergency passport and CapeTown costs. They refused to accept that this loss meant my travel was disrupted and my claim was for disrupted travel. We had to get back on board our ship to continue our holiday and eventually get our booked flights home from Mauritius. Essentially my £500+ insurance cover with AllClear was useless to me. AllClear effectively left me without any cover when stuck in CapeTown. Reviewed on: 19th September 2025

Very poor response time and claim unfairly dismissed

1
I waited three months for Reactive Claims to assess my AllClear Gold plus claim. My claim was then summarily dismissed. Although both my cousin and myself were travelling together, we both took out AllClear Gold Plus and felt well covered. My cousin lost her passport in South Africa so we could not board our cruise ship. But my claim for necessary, actually vital, travel was refused and my cousins limited to just£500. My cousin’s lost passport obviously seriously disrupted our travel plans. We lost four days of our cruise and had to spend on emergency accommodation, food, taxis etc and then flight and transport to get back to our cruise ship on its last night in South Africa. I was refused ALLof my claim for the vital transport. The excuse by AllClear( Reactive Claims) was that it wasn’t my passport. My argument is that my travel plans were interrupted and I had to get back to the cruise so I could then eventually get my booked return flight back to the UK. In other words AllClear effectively left me with no insurance cover because I was not the one who lost the passsport. But even my cousin only received £500 which nowhere near covered all that she had had to spend ( we were stranded in South Africa). In essence AllClear dispossessed me of my expensive insurance cover. Beware of the hype. Reactive Claims, the company who manage AllClear claims will find any reason to deny your claim in my cousin and my experience. Reviewed on: 8th August 2025
