Review of the Cover My Breakdown, Vehicle breakdown insurance:

Should be called, Cover My Scam.

1
Avoid! Buyer beware! I went with ‘cover my breakdown’ same as many others have because of the low cost. I should have known better, the cheap cost would cut corners somewhere. I have always had breakdown cover as my worse nightmare is to be left stranded on the road side somewhere. With ‘cover my breakdown’ you are in a very high chance of having just that happen, even if you have paid them up to date! Firstly, they are not a true breakdown company in the sense that if you call them, they just come out and help you get fixed and on your way again. The first thing as many others online have found, is even if you can get hold of them on the phone as they don’t seem to answer very quickly at all, they will try anything to get and wriggle out of helping anybody. The reason why is they are an insurance company, NOT a true breakdown company. So they will need to pay a third party to come out to help you. This cost them, so they don’t want to pay to assist you! I have been with them three times now, and as many have said easy to set up and use and they take your money really easy. Try ringing them on the phone! Last Thursday for the first time in three years my car wouldn’t start, so I rang them. It took me two and a quarter hours of being past around different numbers only to arrive back at the first caller again who was hell bent I had a key problem. Because they thought I had a key problem they won’t help as not covered. I told them I had tried both key fobs, and both was not working and the electrics had failed and not working. On that information alone should tell anybody, let alone a so called professional expert, it is most lightly a car issue, not a faulty key fob. As many others have also found and experienced, I too was also left stranded as many others with no breakdown cover or help at all. After hours of waiting for a manager to call back, and arguing on the phone asking for just someone to come out and help. I ended up having to sort out the problem myself, and got a garage to come out and have a look. Right away the guy said, looks like a duff battery as low power on car horn, electric windows, no door locks working etc and just needed a jump start, and everything worked just fine again. End of the day, a faulty battery, a simple good old-fashioned breakdown. Had ‘cover my breakdown’ bothered to send someone out as I was entitled to, or even listened to me. I would have been up and running and back on my way in no time, with minimal cost to them, and they would have kept a loyal customer, instead of loosing one has they now have. Plus my son, friends and everyone I know will tell on social’s will hear of my experience’s will cost them! It may cost more in the long run, but take it from me you can’t beat the age old good service of a proper rescue service like the AA or the RAC who I am going back to now. No doubt they will reply to this and say anything to wriggle out of this as well, but my words are the truth of my experience with them. I do have proof of them admitting there call handler got it wrong. No good saying that four days later after being stuck and dumped by the side of the road!! Reviewed on: 20th October 2025
