Watch out for hidden credit

I bought a product from eBay with Paypal. The transaction was automatically put onto my PayPal credit balance that was previously at zero. I think it may have been a temporary Comms issue to my bank. PayPal only informed me of of the money I owed when there was interest to pay. No way of cancelling the PayPal credit account to be found. Only keep it if no other way to pay.
