Completely Unintuitive and Inaacurate Credit

I couldn't be more disappointed with the PayPal service. Payments take days to clear and show on your account. Making additional payments leaves you wondering when the payment you have made will clear your account both with your bank, and reflecting in your PayPal balance. I expect with modern banking, the maximum amount of time a transaction should take to reflect in your balance is 24 hours. This makes PayPal really challenging to manage if you want to keep accurate accounts, without having to use third-party software and records. All this, means that it can be easy to inadvertently pay more or less than you were expecting, I did this and paid more on a promotional offer where funds are interest free over 24 month. Currently the actual balance left on this is £280.68, however the summary says '24 installments - 9 left of £40.42 (which is £363.78). However, my current PayPal balance is £240.26. So I have 3 different total balances on one screen. The only reason I haven't scored PayPal as 1 out of 5 across the board, is they're available on most platforms. I'd clear it off, however I'm waiting to see what happens when the current balance of £240.26 is reached, will they keep taking up to the £280.68 or keep going to the £363.78? All in all, it's just a mess of a service. Reviewed on: 7th July 2026
