An absolute shambles

We've just completed on the purchase of a property with the Mansfield and it was the worst experience I've had with a lender by a long way. The the process was extremely difficult and you seemed to be putting up obstacles all the way through, with the chain almost breaking down a number of times due to the lack of urgency and inefficiencies at the Mansfield. There were many examples, but these included, losing our application form, asking for bank statements which you already had, not returning calls or being able to transfer calls to the relevant person who could deal with a query, asking for information which was not relevant to the application (such as EPC's on other buy to let properties), rejecting an employment reference because I was copied in on the email from the HR dept, increasing the deposit required, losing our direct debit form so the first payment wasn't taken and generally being pedantic and petty. If you want to lend, I think you need to step back, review your processes and improve the customer experience significantly. Otherwise, you should just say they don't want to lend at the start of the process and save your customers a great deal of stress. Reviewed on: 6th June 2021

Mansfield Building Society staff have always been helpful and professional in their dealings with my account. I left the society because the interest rates were so low and we made a big purchase.

Disappointed saver

I called in to branch to deposit some savings into my easy access isa to be told the account is now closed and no further deposits could be made. I was really taken aback because had no information to inform me of this. Reviewed on: 21st May 2021
Reply from Mansfield Building Society We’re sorry to hear that you have experienced some confusion over your Easy Access Cash ISA account. Our approach to Cash ISA accounts is that they are available for subscriptions in that tax year only. The terms and conditions of the account that are issued to all account holders, when an account is opened, make this clear. This approach is in line with many other Building Societies and Banks and helps us to maintain our best interest rates for existing account holders. If we had accepted further subscriptions from savers this tax year into their existing Easy Access Cash ISA accounts we would have had to reduce the interest rate on the account, including therefore your account, in order to maintain our market position and manage further demand. We appreciate that this may cause some inconvenience, as you will have had to open up a new account with us for your 2021/2022 Cash ISA subscription, but this approach has enabled us to maintain the best interest rate possible on your, and other savers’, existing Cash ISA accounts.
