Review of the Saga, Car insurance:

Overpriced.

Most insurances are fairly similar but the overall cost is getting ridiculous. Driving/riding since I was sixteen everything from a Mini to a Daimler probably 1.5 million miles and riding motorcycles from a scooter, at sixteen, to supersports machines up to the age of 79, half a million miles or more. During that time I have only had to make two or three claims - none of them for significant amounts. My current NCB is 14 years - a very low figure due to various companies limiting the 'maximum' number of No Claim years plus the fact that every time I changed my insurance company I effectively lost a year's NCB due to renewing before the expiry date of the current insurance.. I am now 86, drive a little Mazda 3 TS2 2.0L - 2009 vintage - and this years SAGA Car insurance premium was a whopping £680 odd pounds, in 2019 I think it was £550. This works out at 20+p per driven mile on average. Absolutely ridiculous. I doubt whether the total cost of claims I have made in my 70 years of riding and driving would reach that amount. I'm sorry but in general I think all car insurance is a big, government enforced, rip-off. Reviewed on: 26th August 2020
