Good product, service left much to be desired

I was effectively a guarantor for a new mortgage for my son and daughter in law buying a new house. Your product was good and you did reasonably well but I have 2 issues: 1. You repeatedly asked for more details, even when you already had the information. I have bought and sold a number of houses but have never been forced to supply anywhere near the amount and detail of information that you required. 2. You insisted that we had to use a lawyer from your panel of lawyers, despite our preference for someone we knew well and preferred. The lawyer you required was awful. It was a frustrating and very difficult exercise with people whose competence I question and on some occasions did not even have an adequate command of the English language. I had one particularly distressing video meeting, required by you, where you insisted that we should pay for a separate, independent consultation at a cost of £360. This was late, gave us no advice and was purely concerned with getting our signature to confirm that we had taken this 'advice'. It was only of use to you, not us. This was one of the occasions where we concluded that the lawyer did not understand us and we were certainly unable to understand him. This was simply nowhere near the competence expected.
