Savings account opening

I went to my local branch to open a new savings account. The staff member who assisted me was very helpful, providing a lot of information about the account that I was interested in and answered my queries. Reviewed on: 19th July 2023

New Account for Existing Customer

I have been a customer for a little over a year and was looking to open a new account. I tried this online, but had issues as my existing NI number had been entered automatically from my existing customer record but partially obfuscated and therefore wasn't accepted, but no option to correct it - this required my first contact with the savings team - they resolved it efficiently and communicated well by the next day I was ready to try again and was successful. Once opened I tried to fund my account, I sent money but this was returned. I enquired why and was advised I needed to provide ID - odd this was the case as I was an existing customer and using the same nominated account for my new account as my existing. A copy of bank statement was required, although no option to upload this electronically, requiring either a trip to the branch or snail mail. Overall I think Newbury has a great proposition and fantastic people - however, a review of the customer journey and policies would identify some very simple changes that would improve the customer experience and free time for the staff to focus on what they do best which is building relationships Reviewed on: 15th July 2023
