I’ve had business and personal accounts with Barclays for 20 years. When I went into my local branch at 2.30 pm on a Wednesday afternoon to open a current account for my 15 year old daughter, blinds were drawn on all of the tellers windows and it seemed completely empty. After five minutes a woman appeared and asked me if she could help. When I told her what I wanted she said I could make an appointment for 3 months time to actually speak to someone. I went home and set up a Starling account for me and a Kite account for my daughter in less than an hour. We’ve had no issues at all. The high street banks are completely behind the curve.
