Review of the Zopa, Personal loan:

No messing around, immediate decision, professional and friendly.

Loan companies usually come with a lot of stereotyped underworld stigma attached. But from the minute I contacted Zopa they were the complete opposite: they were friendly, helpful and completely transparent. I was very hesitant about contacting a loan company because of all the questions I thought I would be asked about why I needed the loan - I just needed the money, I wasn't buying a caravan or anything obvious like that so I thought this would be a problem. I expected questions about what other loans had I had in the past, what was my financial status etc. However Zopa were completely professional by which I mean they didn't pry into my personal affairs or reasons for needing the money. That was a relief in itself. I just wanted to be told "Yes we'll lend you the money, or No, we won't". And that's exactly what I got. I was delighted of course that it was a 'Yes' and £20,000 was transferred to my bank within hours. I actually couldn't believe it had been that easy, and for that amount of money. Trying to borrow that amount from Barclays (who I've banked with for over 30 years) had proved impossible. Since I've had the loan (nearly 2 years) I had one month where it was going to be difficult to make the monthly payment. I rang Zopa and explained I was short that month and they were unbelievably helpful and reassuring. I was told not to worry at all and just to make whatever payment I could as soon as I was realistically able but was clearly told not to put my personal situation at risk for the sake of a monthly payment. There was absolutely no pressure, no threats, no massive penalty or high interest charge. They made me feel so relaxed about the situation that my whole outlook changed and I was able to get the money together the following month and within 2 months I had caught up the payments. I would have no hesitation in recommending them. Compared to the horror stories you hear about payday loans and other unscrupulous loan companies Zopa are an absolute pleasure to deal with. They sound completely professional on the phone too so you know you are dealing with reasonable people. Reviewed on: 3rd January 2018
