Essential account full of fees

1
Upon searching for a pre paid debit card the Suits me account was listed. I went through all of the screens, didn't want to pay the monthly fees for the plus or premium accounts and thought the cash back sounded interesting. I have a Chase account that has been brilliant for cash back on all of my purchases made anywhere I purchase. As soon as I was accepted I saw they charged for depositing and taking out of cash points so decided just not to use it. I then start to get emails about depositing funds and I ignore then until I receive an email offering £30 cash back. Sounds good I think! So I search for the T&C's that were nowhere to be found. Saw it would cost me £1.25 to deposit. Ok, still get a good amount of cash back. But then I wondered if they would charge me for transferring out. I no longer had the card and that was £5 for a replacement!!! I couldn't find how much it was for a bank transfer so emailed customer support. Was sent articles that didn't answer the question so I asked again. Finally sent the fees and account to account it states a £1. So I deposit the money. Not only is there a £1.25 deposit fee but a further £5 fee for your first load. None of this is mentioned in the email drawing you in. I was so annoyed as felt it was really sneaky. Nope, its in 16.1 of the fine print NOWHERE on the website or app is this noted. I just want my money out so go to withdraw for the £1 and thats internal transfers. It's £1.49 instead and I will need to wait up to 10 days for the cash back. So I take out the funds and then realise that I will have to pay again to get the £30 out. In the end for a load of faff and condescending customer service team it cost me £9.23 in fees. The cash back is really limited too. Specific retailers and even limited on purchases and you have to wait around two months to get it. Worst pre paid card I've ever come across. I'm complaining to the Ombudsman as I don't feel their website or app are transparent with the sheer amount of things they charge for. Reviewed on: 28th March 2023
