Regular saver

Santander offer a fairly high interest rate on their regular saver of 5%, however you can only pay in a maximum of £200 per month, which is one of the lower payment amounts for a regular saver. So the rates are good, but the opening process was painful... rather than allowing customers to open an account online, I had the option of a telephone appointment or to go into my local branch - I chose the branch option. It took half an hour, during which the poor member of staff had to read me several pages of terms and conditions, and I left with a whole ream of paperwork to read... definitely the most laborious process for opening a savings account that I've ever gone through! Excellent regular saver

First Direct offer one of the best regular savers on the market - it allows you to pay in up to £300 per month and earn 6% interest. It's easy to open and operate online, and payment in is by standing order which makes it easy to change the monthly payment amount if you want to. I've held these accounts for the last three years, and as long as they're still offering such a great rate I'll open a new one as soon as my current one matures. Reviewed on: 5th September 2016

High interest for regular savings

My regular saver with HSBC allows me to save up to £250 per month at an interest rate of 4%. It was easy to open online, and payment is made by standing order so once this is set up I can forget about it. Reviewed on: 5th September 2016

Great service at a great rate!

I have only recently changed my mortgage to First Direct, and I was very impressed by the process. Their own conveyancers provided me with access to an online tracker so that I could see exactly what stage the remortgage was at, and could upload documents to them as needed. Now that the mortgage is active, I have a great interest rate (with no fees, bonus!) and can overpay at any time through the online banking. If I ever need to phone the mortgage team, they answer straight away, 24/7, and are friendly and helpful. The one small downside is that I can't see the balance of the mortgage online, which is a little disappointing from an online-only bank. However the product and service are so good that I can easily forgive this little flaw. Reviewed on: 5th September 2016
