Incompetent, Incapable and Inefficient

1
Our mortgage application was declined because apparently they 'could not verify the information' we provided. I have been a loyal customer of Barclays Bank for many years now since my adolescence, and I expected more from my trusted financial institution. As teachers in the public sector, my husband and I have always been employed and we have never been out of work. We are in a sector that recognises us as professionals and teaching is renowned to be a very stable career compared to many high paying jobs. Both our credit scores are excellent; we have always paid our mortgage on time, have cleared our debts, paid all our bills on time and despite this, our application was declined. Barclays gave us four days to obtain a P60. We had to retrieve a P60 from the previous employer, which took a long time to be sent. As an alternative and suggested by the government website, we took a screenshot of all the necessary details from our Government Gateway. We provided all the other necessary documents and information to support our application. We have always trusted Barclays Bank, but this recent experience has left us feeling let down, disappointed and frustrated. Their decline led us to miss our opportunity of a lower mortgage rate with our current lenders which had increased again and with only two weeks until the end of our mortgage, we ended staying with our lender at a much higher rate. I spoke to Barclays Complaints several times going back and forths. The Auditors obviously could not be bothered to read the information I had passed onto the complaints team and kept referring back to their very first vague email informing our broker that we were declined because 'partner 2 does not have a good track record of income'. This does not explain specifically why we were declined. After some back and forths, they told Complaints to inform us that 'information would not be verified' which does not match what they initially said. What information? They couldn't even tell us which information and told us to go to the financial ombudsman. You'd think being a teacher in the most stable sector for 15 years, information would easily be verified. Apparently not according to them. A pathetic financial institute with a team of terrible Auditors. I'd strongly recommend that you avoid banking with them. Reviewed on: 30th June 2023
