TSB closed out account after 10 years of blemish free use without reason

1
After being with TSB for over 10 years. Always in credit, always pay CC in full we received a letter today saying they were closing our checking account down with no reason or justification. I spent over an hour on the phone (Chargeable rate) and no one can explain why our account is being closed. The letter referred to 2 accounts. One is a savings account hat we no longer use so I could accept that decision as their T&Cs state account has to be used. However the current account is used to pay bills every month and receivews our salaries every month. We never go over drawn. So I thought there must be a mistake. Unfortunately no one at TSB could explain why the account was closed. Without an explainatioin your mind is left to ponder what they made their decision on. Fraudulant activity, financial misrepresentation... the list goes on. Eventually I had to raise a complaint but I was told it would make no difference as it would not change anything. I was told I could use the complaint reference to raise the issue with the ombudsman. However I did eventually persuade a manager there to enquire by email to the Account closures team to raise this matter. I am hoping this is a mistake. A repeat of a similar one we were subject to a couple of months ago. Again a letter out of the blue asking us to verify account details, but the letter referred to an account number that we did not recognise. So we thought it was phishing and ignored it. Eventually we discovered it wasn't and that TSB had made a mistake with the account number. £50 compensation paid. And this earlier mistake is the reason why I think the current account closure is also a mistake. The issue is we have Direct debits and standing orders tied into our current account. It would mean work on our part to act on the letter at face value. But not being able to speak to someone and being told raising a complaint would not change anything is totally unacceptable. Additionally my wife and I both received a letter. But they addressed my wife as Mr ( She wasn't happy) I hope TSB read this review and launch an internal investigation. I attach a screenshot of the letter so you can see the type of curt correspondence you get from the TSB. My advice for anyone wanting to join TSB is stay well away. Reviewed on: 15th November 2023
