Adding further heartbreak at a horrendous time.

1
So my mother set up this plan to help me pay for her funeral and grieve without the worry, hurt and upset organising a funeral and finding the money. Every month from 2016 she paid her monthly amount by direct debit. The payout due is £6k. Mum passed away on the 9th of this month after a horrendous few weeks of pain. Mum made sure I was aware of everything i needed to do. The funeral directors collected mum from her home on the 9th. Monday 13th I sent all requested documents to British Seniors including her death certificate, i was advised everything would be sorted by the end of the week. In order to book the funeral the directors required a deposit of £2000, i phoned British Seniors and again told not to worry it would be sorted by the end of the week. Well suprise it wasn't so i had to beg and borrow for the funeral to proceed, nobody wants their loved ones waiting in a freezer!!! I called and told British Seniors i had paid the deposit and was advised to send proof of payment so I have sent this along with proof of payment for flower arrangements, i cannot hold a funeral without flowers. Mums funeral was on Tuesday 21st this week, im now in receipt of the full and final bill including details of deposit and flowers paid and so are British Seniors. The funeral and all costs are roughly £4500 which will leave around £1500.00 that mum requested to be paid to me so that I could pay for skips, cleaners, removal vans etc after her death as her home was rented. I am now £600 down on that so far and i haven't been paid at work due to the last 4 weeks of caring for mum and grieving. They are now saying i need probate for £1500 as i have an estranged sibling whom I haven't seen nor had mum for 20 years when he moved to Australia. I have been advised by solicitors that this is not needed for such a small amount and British Seniors are being awkward. The final straw was today when I have been advised I can't collect mums ashes until the bill is cleared. Another call to British Seniors and they cannot give me a time frame of if/when i will receive confirmation of payment. Im currently crying my eyes out and feel so ill due to the severe distress of dealing with this company, i have requested to speak with management but non available. I would genuinely put money away in a bank safely than pay into this company, it isn't as stress free or as assuring as their advert makes out. Please research and perhaps use companies that others have had better experiences with. At a time when your heart is already broken, nobody should feel like this. Reviewed on: 25th November 2023
