How are banks still in business?

I was amazed at the interest rate Ratesetter could offer me compared to my bank, who I had been with for over 20 years. The bank could only offer 18%whilst Ratesetter was 8! It was very uncomplicated and the decision really quick, paperwork minimal and its very easy to keep on top of it with there website. I do not think I would borrow from a bank again.
