Best of both worlds; online and branch

Been with Smile bank as long as I can remember. Sceptical at first about online banking, but smile bank changed my mind. With the added bonus of being able to use co operative bank in branch, smile cooperative gives the best of both worlds for convenience and peace of mind. Payment Stopped but no notification!

A large transaction was stopped by the Fraud Team although the funds were shown as leaving my account. No notification (sms, email, or telephone) was received alerting me to this. Funds not received by recipient account so panic sets on following day. 1 hour wait on phone before being told that the payment had been stopped by Smile! Another 30 minutes to release the funds! Straightforward banking - spots unusual transactions quickly to protect your money

I am happy with Smile Bank. The mobile app and online banking does the things I need it to. It isn't as up to date as many recently launched digital banks in terms of functions and operations so it needs to keep an eye on that. It is good at spotting unusual transactions and making you aware and checking things very quickly. Would be good for messaging to be possible on the app and not just via online banking. Not fit for purpose.

Smile bank has some serious systemic issues when it comes to customer service. They do not listen to what is said to them, they do not read what has been written to them. There are much better alternatives out there, why put up with Smile incompetence and abuse? Reviewed on: 27th May 2023

A bank with good ethics

Happy to have an account with Smile Bank. The app and online access are easy to use. Great to know they are committed to their ethical credentials. Scored 4 out of 5 because they do need to make their mobile app much more stable and reliable. Also, you still have to take too long getting through to people on their phone line.
