Don't let sludge get in the way of your claim...

Whilst setting up the insurance policy was easy and the cost of the premium was reasonable. However, when it came to making a claim after a valve seized on the central heating system, 24/7 refused our claim on the basis that their engineer stating we had too much sludge in the system. I brought in another gas engineer for a second opinion and he found the amount of sludge to be low, and the valve had ceased for other reasons. The 24/7 engineer was helpful but also seemed to be bound by rules that looked for reasons not to support a claim. Given that we have never made a claim before, we found this response unhelpful. Complete waste of money According to their policy, they will only cover boilers that are less than 7 years old. This seems quite surprising, especially when many modern boilers come with warranties of 10 years or more so in that case ur boiler already under manufacture warranty. For boilers over 7 years old, they will apparently only cover repairs if the cost is no more than £250 and they value ur boiler with a very little amount and based on that , they will declare ur boiler as beyond repair. In reality, it seems quite unlikely that a boiler repair will fall within this limit. On top of that, you still have to pay an excess even if they ultimately don’t carry out any meaningful repair. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend reading the policy terms very carefully before taking out this type of boiler insurance. Otherwise, you could end up paying for insurance throughout the year and finding that, when you actually need it, there is very little or no cover available. Just be aware and make sure you understand exactly what you’re paying for. Reviewed on: 12th August 2026
