I have used Get Going Travel Insurance on several occasions and have always been satisfied with them. When I had to claim they dealt with that in a reasonable timescale. I will use them when we decide to travel again. Reviewed on: 25th July 2020

Unpleasant, abrupt staff..Pandemic not covered by Premium full policy

I've used get going for many trips for past 5 years but never had to claim. This year FORTUNATELY instead of having one of our usual expensive long haul holidays booked for March we had a flight only trip to stay with friends in Spain in May. Needless to say that didn't happen due to Covid19 Pandemic. We got a no fuss refund from Jet2 for the flights (can highly recommend them). However when we called get going for a refund on an UNUSED POLICY the Get going staff member was HORRIBLE, rude, abrupt and just read T&Cs about Pandemics not being covered for policy refund like a soulless robot. We hung up and called back and got a nicer person who gave us at least the option to keep the policy open and change the travel dates to as far as a year away, a refund would only be given on my extra illness/disability premium meaning we would get less than 50% back. We are just so relieved that it wasn't an expensive policy this year and that we had a decent airline who refunded us without prompting, dread to think if we had been in Thailand or similar, like usual in March when Covid kicked off as I think Get going would have just left us at the mercy of the Tour operators, airlines and Government. Even if your government advised against travel or advised immediate return home, borders were shutting etc with Get going circumstances due to Pandemics were not covered under any policy! I am careful and read things carefully, always ensuring I'm fully covered for my trip and needs, airlines going bust etc. It might be easy and competitively priced to get a policy with GG, even with illneses but there are so many "get out clauses" written into their tiny small print T&Cs, I doubt they actually pay out very often. I dare you to read them all...50 pages+, post Covid is likely to be more! Won't be using them again and have advised all the family, friends and colleagues I've previously recommended them to, that their policies are not to be trusted and that their staff can be rude and obstructive.
