There is a fee for using these accounts, you can choose from three GoHenry memberships. Everyday is a debit card and app, Plus includes interest on savings and max is a family plan. Kids can learn through Money Missions in their GoHenry app.

Fantastic idea!

Where do I start?! Go Henry is just an all round wonderful idea! We home educate (permanently, not because of covid) and believe strongly in teaching life skills, which are often missed in school. We were wanting to open an account for our 4 children, but wanted something that would teach them the realities of managing money, rather than your standard savings account. This is perfect! They ‘earn’ their money by doing their usual small chores around the house, meaning they see the reward for their efforts instantly. The card can be used wherever Visa is accepted, meaning lots of online shopping as well as visits to the sweet shop and occasionally buying games for their console. This means they see the impact spending that money then has on the hard earned money in their accounts. They all have a much greater understanding and appreciation for the value of money, and why we don’t always buy the things they want. They also give a little to charity each month, which is a little like having bills taken from their account. Although they all chose to do donate and are happy to help others, it’s another great lesson. It’s also great to know they always have funds on them that isn’t cash, but can be used if/when needed. The other great things are the fact that we are notified when they spend on their cards, the cards can be personalised in fun designs with their name on, and the fact even our 6 year old can have an account & card. Other people can send them money for things like birthdays & Christmas too (even the tooth fairy has made the odd deposit!), meaning they no longer have odd bits of cash they don’t get round to spending - especially during covid times. The app is very user friendly and customisable too, which is great for technophobes like us - if we can do it, anyone can! All in all this is a wonderful, useful, educational tool and we wish we’d known about it earlier! Reviewed on: 27th January 2021
