Be prepared to waste your time on the phone

Very frustrating trying to deal with them: sent a secure message because that’s the channel I prefer because I’m busy during the day at work, yet the my insist on calling me back to discuss by phone! Left a voicemail which then meant I need to ring them and sit in a queue, when they could have just responded to my message so I could read at my convenience. Mentioned this to the advisor on the phone and she was quite defensive and couldn’t see the problem. Very old fashioned and not very customer friendly. Reviewed on: 2nd September 2025

Website apparently not functioning

I received a letter "Action Required" about the maturity of a savings account and told to log on to online savings. Have been trying all morning. It does not seem to be functioning. Reviewed on: 13th July 2025

Great Building Society

Competitive rates but archaic application process

Opening a new savings account as a new customer felt like a return to the 1980s. Application was via post including a cheque. I received account details via post, but had to phone to request an online sign-in password. Line was busy, so they called me back several hours later. Customer support staff member was nice and helpful, but the whole process was dated and inconvenient in a modern digital world. Reviewed on: 3rd April 2025

I wanted to visit the branch but when I got there it was closed for staff training. It is a 20 mile round trip to the nearest and there is no help to get on line. Not good enough! When I have been in before they have said I had to book an appointment. Reviewed on: 3rd April 2025

Very easy processes that make you feel safe as a saver, and ensure you understand the product that you are investing in easily. Lots of plan speak removing potential problems before they start. Reviewed on: 26th March 2025
