I opened a savings account with Monmouthshire building society as they were offering a really good interest rate for 12 months, i downloaded the App and found it very easy to use, the maximum monthly investment amount is higher than most other accounts available Reviewed on: 18th April 2026

Attempted to access regular savings account online

I opened a regular savings account. I couldn't do this online & had to download app. App told me I could open it online or on app but still couldn't find out how to do it online. Opened account on app. don't want to rely only on app in case phone gets stolen/lost so tried to open online account and add reg savings account to that. Got through all 3 screens worth of input when site simply said 'registration failed'. No details of any sort or advice on what to do next. I tried the forgotten password routine, which told me I had got the Unique ID or account number wrong, despite copying and pasting them both from the document emailed to me by Mon BS. I'd forgotten just how frustrating it is dealing with Mon BS, and why I hadn't opened new accounts since I was last with them Reviewed on: 14th April 2026

We’re sorry to hear that you have experienced issues whilst trying to open an account online and whilst applying for the My Accounts service. As our My Accounts service is separate from our mobile app, there will be different Unique ID’s for the app and My Accounts. We apologise that there was no advice given on what to do next. Our Savings and Customer Contact team will be happy to investigate the failed registration further for you. The team can be reached on 01633 844340 and are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9am-5pm and Wednesday 10am-5pm. Response date: 15th April 2026

Going back in time

The big issue for me is transfers not reaching my Monmouthshire account in a timely fashion. This morning I sent a bank transfer from a well known High Street Bank, electronically, at 7.15am. Now, at 5pm the same day, it still has not been credited to my Monmouthshire account. I think this will stop me opening further accounts with them. In this digital age, no one likes to see their money disappear for 10+ hours. I just do not feel that is acceptable. It’s like we have gone back in time to the 70’s! Reviewed on: 9th April 2026
