Today we're revealing the top performing banks in Britain using data from our Smart Money People reviews over the last 12 months.

The top three banks in the league table all saw an improvement to their overall rating in 2021 and there is just 0.5% between them. Metro Bank are a new entrant to the league table for 2021 with an impressive 96.4%.

Last week Starling Bank was awarded ‘Best British Bank’ at the British Bank Awards 2021 for the fourth consecutive year; but it was pushed very hard by Monzo, and over the last 12 months there is only 0.1% difference in their overall rating scores. Starling also took home awards for ‘Best Current Account’, ‘Best Business Banking Provider’ and ‘Best Banking App’.

NatWest has improved its overall rating by 18% from 2020. The success of its digital assistant Cora has contributed to the improved rating, with one customer review commenting: “Fantastic service which was very easy and safe to use. I wasn't asked for any personal details. Great time saving service”.

Commenting on the results, Jacqueline Dewey, CEO of Smart Money People said:

The overall rating of the top five banks demonstrates the incredible level of customer advocacy these firms have built up. What shines through from the customer reviews is that they’re doing something different to traditional banks, continuing to innovate and offering a service that resonates with their customers. They have managed to continue an incredibly high standard of customer service, which is no mean feat over the last 12 months."
