Credit Unions - save first, then borrow...

Since working with the CAB 20+ years ago, I learned a lot about how people can get into debt, especially via unwise borrowing. Credit Unions encourage people to save before lending them money. Savers know that their money is safe and is being used to help those who are trying to help themselves and who are most in need of low interest loans. It took a while to find a credit union that I was eligible to join, but I started saving every month and the sum soon grew. I have from time to time taken a loan, for six months only, that could be repaid without any additional payments requiring to be made and my savings would continue to grow during that period. The interest rates are also good, and the savings are secure. Everyone, but, perhaps especially, lower paid workers, should join a credit union. Saving something regularly with a credit union helps put you into a good position for borrowing without extortionate interest rates. Reviewed on: 26th June 2020

I find it great for saving as it comes off my wages and I sometimes forget about it and end up with a very good sum of money with which I am now going to buy a carpet . Reviewed on: 26th June 2020

The only savings account

I began saving with the nhs credit union as it was easy; it came off my wages and I didn’t really miss it. I have now increased my saving amount each month, as well as make additional contributions. I only have this account as my savings account now! Staff are friendly and efficient whenever I’ve needed to call them! I recommend this to all my friends and colleagues! Reviewed on: 25th June 2020

Easy payday savings

Great way to save money easily

Since joining the credit union in 2003 I have managed to save enough for a trip for 2 to Paris, two trips for just myself to New Zealand and get my car fixed when it expensively broke down during my first 3 months of a community job where I needed my vehicle. Saving £5 a week has made it possible for me to have financial resilience and allow me to have great travel experiences t9 visit my friends. Reviewed on: 25th June 2020
