Useful in Homelessness Services

I work in Homelessness Services and often need to consider affordability for referral purposes, and with people moving between accommodation types respectively using UC and HB for housing costs. I use the calculator myself and signpost service users and other professionals to it, especially when they are trying to make sense of a possible future change including changing work hours Reviewed on: 15th May 2025

Invaluable for professionals

I am a homelessness prevention officer at a Local Authority (council). I use this tool on a daily basis to complete benefits assessments and budgets with clients who are threatened with homelessness. It's an excellent tool, very easy to use. I've used the "help" chat function numerous times and I have always, without exception, received an immediate and helpful response. I use the Policy in Practice - Better off calculator on a regular basis in my role as a Citizens Advice adviser. I find it simple to use and like the fact that I can do 'what if' scenarios and to be able to share this data with the client. Reviewed on: 15th May 2025

Easy to use and up-to-date!

The Policy in Practice: Better Off Calculator has really helped me to carry out in-depth Income and Expenditure Assessments with customers. I find the ability to create different scenarios really useful. It is regularly updated to keep inline with changes to the benefit system and utility costs, which means I can really trust the results. Reviewed on: 14th May 2025
