Starling errors froze my business account for 3 months almost destroying my livelihood

Probably the worst banking experience I have ever had. Having fulfilled (apparently) all the relevant criteria, Starling opens my business account. Funds come into the account, but I cannot use it. I am given reasons from Starling customer service of everything from "out of date app", to "I must be putting in the bank details incorrectly", to "you need to activate the business card," to "technical issues at starling," followed by "no technical issues, so it must be my fault, try on both 4G and wifi,". And on and on. Then I am told, after much pursuing, there was a technical error and in fact they shouldn't have opened the account, at which point they froze it entirely and said they would only return funds to me by cheque, (presumably so their error was less visible on their books?). A prolonged back and forth of emails and phones calls led to no change - just empty apologies on their side. Meanwhile suppliers went unpaid, deadlines were missed and I spent 3 months desperately scramble to save my flaggingly new business, with all funds locked by Starling. Just as suddenly Starling agreed to send the funds to be by wire transfer (previously termed by them as "unsafe" as a mechanism for moving funds (!!). The entire incident cost me £2800, for which they compensated £300 and I will go to Ombudsman to make a claim. Appalling, dreadful, extraordinarily weird. Avoid avoid avoid. Second to none!

Set up my Starling account to use as a ‘holiday account’ - fantastic no charge for foreign transactions and market leading MasterCard exchange rates. Had numerous questions when applying / using but their customer experience is exceptional with all questions answered with the customer at the forefront of their approach. The account is simply a current account for the 21st century. No ‘free money or other bells and whistles’ but it speaks volumes after having recently moved from my mainstream, high street current account provider - who do have those bells and whistles! Straight forward and simple

Swapped from Lloyds after 32 years a customer due to terrible experience they even changed my address and I haven't moved! Starling was simple to set up and I have a much better idea of what is going in and out of my account. The foreign exchange is also great! Reviewed on: 13th November 2019

Amazing Internet Bank

Starling may be the less known internet bank, their card is definitely a conversation starter. The app is very regularly updated and comes with a lot of functionalities you won't find in traditional banking apps. Reviewed on: 13th November 2019

The best and it's free.

I love the app and the easy of use. No fees to use abroad. It's good as MONZO, but Starling wins the race because unlike monzo there is no limit to withdraw cash abroad with no fees. Reviewed on: 13th November 2019

Incredibly Accessible

Starling has opened a new perspective on banking for me. Someone recommended Starling on the basis of the functionality of the mobile app and it has honestly revolutionised the way that I interact with money. The app makes everything so straight forward and clear which I did not find with previous banks. Having notifications sent directly to my phone when I spend allows me to keep track of everything I buy which has allowed me to budget better as a graduate. Reviewed on: 13th November 2019
