Appalling customer experience

I was a week late with my monthly payment on a balance of £36 due to my family being ill. They immediately put a £12 fine on my account. When I tried to pay with my debit card as I had done in every previous month, they had blocked my ability to pay anything into my account, how ridiculous is that?? I had to call customer services and wait for ages to be answered. I paid off the total balance and told them I wanted to close the account. The agent said I would have to call back to a different department to close it. I said I would do that in a few days time. Half an hour later they phoned me again and woke me up as I was trying to sleep after late shift. I didn't answer. The following day was Saturday, again they phoned me in the afternoon, I recognise the number, I didn't answer. I can understand blocking you from using your card until you make a late payment, but to block your ability to repay it online is just ludicrous. Not everybody has the time to hang on to a customer service number that takes ages to answer. Reviewed on: 11th February 2022
