Be Careful!

I filled all details of a claim I made 3 years ago when an unknown driver hit my car when parked in the road outside my house when I was looking to renew my insurance. I foolishly paid there and then online then the next day received an email saying they’ve got details of a claim I made 3 years ago, could I ring them to provide details. They said that I said it was a non fault accident but according to my current insurers, it was a my fault accident. I was told insurers say a third party hitting my car and driving off IS MY FAULT! Apparently, if they can’t claim off a third party, then it’s your fault. My quote was £212 but they had to rerun the quote saying the accident was my fault and it came out £112 extra! So I told them to cancel it and give a refund. To add insult to injury, they charged me a £25 administration fee for doing so! Not Happy. Read more Read less

I obtained car insurance through Autonet's online platform. I completed the application honestly to the best of my knowledge. The quoted premium was more favorable than those offered by other comparison website and my current insurance renewal. Consequently, I proceeded with the taking out the insurance. Subsequently, I received all the necessary documentation, including the insurance certificate. Two days later, I received an email asking me to call back. It appears further investigation suggested my declared claim for an an accident occurred 5 years ago indicated that I was at fault, and this would result in an increase of £170 to my insurance premium. I explained that I had selected the option 'Driver hit the post,' which signifies my culpability, and therefore, I believe I completed the application accurately. They informed me that they were unaware of this detail and were merely stating information provided by the underwriter. I then reviewed the application and cross-referenced it with my previous insurance details، which indicated that my response to the claim question was accurate. However, I realize that I did not correctly answer the subsequent question, which was: "Is your NCD affected by this claim and would it be affected if you didn't have NCD protection?" I initially answered no, as my No Claims Discount (NCD) was not impacted. Nevertheless, the second part of the question implies that it would have been affected had I not possessed NCD protection. Acknowledging this would have increased my insurance premium by approximately £50, rather than £170. Consequently, I contacted Autonet to explain my findings and express my desire to cancel the policy. I was informed that an additional £40 administration fee would be applied, and that the cancellation process would take some time, during which period I would not be insured. This information was not included in the application. I also sought clarification regarding the discrepancy between the £49 and £170 increase. I was informed that this was due to a different underwriter. I am quite irritated by this situation. As an insurance broker, their responsibility is to secure the most suitable insurance policy for me, and they should not issue an insurance certificate prior to a thorough review of my application. Additionally, given that my insurance policy commences in two weeks, they should not charge for cancellation, particularly since my application was submitted online. Read more Read less
