By Miles charge a fixed cost that covers a car while it’s parked. The rest is based on the actual miles driven. Customers can either plug in the matchbox-sized Miles Tracker, or for newer cars, you can connect By Miles directly with your car’s mileometer.

An famtastic idea

Calculating exact mileage and charging customers for exactly what they use is a fantastic idea. ByMiles also have a phone number you can call on their website. Many insurance companies don’t any more. They also send me an email summary of my exact mileage each month. Their widget takes all the wish washy guesswork out of car insurance. It’s just brilliant. Best car insurance by miles!

I was a bit unsure at first about pay as you go car insurance, initially I thought it was some sort of scam, but after reading through the information on the company’s website and watching the explanatory video and even having a discussion with a very friendly and helpful agent, I decided to give it a try! And so far I’ve been really pleased with the experience. I’ve saved over £150 this year on my insurance, with the prospect of a refund if I do less miles than predicted. The service I’ve received has been wonderful including the updates I receive on the By Miles app. And I hardly notice the discrete box that tracks how far I’m driving.
