Review of the Ecology Building Society, Savings:

Ethical, and so Supportive !

5
I love saving with a building society that does specific, practical things for the environment, and for housing (both so badly needed). Ethical - no investments in bombs or fossil fuels! The people who work for it are lovely! When I ring up to ask questions, I always get patient, friendly help and clear answers. Sure, the interest rate offered is modest - but this is outweighed by the peace of mind Ecology Building Society offers its customers. Reviewed on: 10th November 2024

A great Building Society

Lost track of the number of years I've been with Ecology. It's more like family. Even when other providers have offered higher interest rates I still valued their ethos. You can't eat money. Reviewed on: 12th March 2021

A big fan

I took out my first savings account with the Ecology Building Society in October 1990 and have remained with them ever since. I love the ethos, which extends beyond excellent customer service, to their staff and to the planet. Their headquarters in Silsden is an ecologically designed building with a productive garden around it. The policy of staff remuneration so that the highest paid person receives no more than six times that of the lowest I totally applaud. I have attended many of their AGMs, which are held in various locations which connect with the work of the Society in different ways. Perhaps my favourite was the one held in the restored Victoria Baths in Manchester, where we congregated in the waterless ladies swimming pool. But there have been many other inspiring locations, and all with interesting speakers. Over the years the Society has moved with the times, and I can now pay in and withdraw money online. However, even in the years before the the postal service for transactions was always prompt and efficient. I would not consider using another building society for my long term savings. Excellent Innovators

I've been to more than one AGM of Ecology Building Society and I have been a saver for a large number of years with them. They are friendly leaders in the field and their personal and environmental behaviour reflects their ideals Reviewed on: 12th March 2021

Pushing positive change for the last 40 years is a organisation which deserves recognition. Lowering carbon footprint - helping worthy health communities and promoting sustainability which is key for everyone concerned. Reviewed on: 12th March 2021

Vote / review - good communication

5
Good communication, glad they are still able to honour the 1% interest rate on my old account in the current climate! Nice to support a company helping the UK move in an ethical forward thinking direction. Reviewed on: 12th March 2021

Open, honest, ground-breaking, principled

5
We’ve been saving with the Ecology Building Society for over thirty years. We started saving with them when ethical, green banking and saving was a tiny minority interest. Over the years we have watched their development. They have stayed true to their ethical and environmental principles throughout and we are proud to have helped them offer mortgages for sustainable and ground-breaking green builds throughout the country. There is no flash marketing, just an open and honest relationship with us as customers. Reviewed on: 12th March 2021

Lender for truly affordable greener housing

5
As well as being a saver with Ecology BS (three product holdings), I’m also an investor in the London Community Land Trust, to which EBS is a mortgage lender, thus supporting genuinely affordable housing in London. I’m also aware of their mortgage lending for green upgrades to existing houses. In my many years’ experience as both a borrower and saver with a wide variety of institutions, EBS is without parallel in its commitment to ethical, green savings and lending. Strict ethical standards for your savings

5
There's no place for unethical banking and finance in a world threatened by climate change and environmental degradation. Ecology Building Society upholds the strictest ethical standards and I feel reassured that my savings are being looked after responsibly. I've ditched the big banks and wouldn't consider going back, whatever changes they make. They owe a debt to people and the planet that they'll never be able to replay. Reviewed on: 12th March 2021
