I have been with Ecology for decades!

I have been with Ecology for decades - since the days of hand written passbooks and envelope re-use labels to post cheques! The shift to the online portal has been efficient, offering straightforward and secure savings. Knowing my savings are used for good is important, and knowing I can add to them or withdraw easily is also important. Ecology succeeds on all those fronts. Highly recommend, saving for my children's future isn't just about saving in an account, it's about ensure they have a planet to inherit too. Reviewed on: 13th March 2026

I absolutely trust the Ecology Building Society.

I absolutely trust the Ecology Building Society with my savings and hopefully, in the future, with a mortgage. They are very responsive to any questions that I have, and I highly vaue their focus on ethical systems, and community building. I choose the Ecology Building Society over all other banks and building societies to safeguard my money and use it in an ethical manner. Reviewed on: 24th February 2026

20 years a customer

I've been with the Ecology for over 20 years, and always glad to be a customer. One of the very few financial institutions that has a genuinely ethical and responsible approach. No gimmicks or special offers, just simple savings products with decent interest rates. In the past, the online banking was cumbersome, but it's now fine. So good to know your money is supporting other people who need loans to buy, build and renovate properties, rather than going to pay banker bonuses. Also a small company based here in Yorkshire, so what is not to like. Reviewed on: 2nd June 2025

Ecology Online Banking

Only gave 4 stars because of the Online Banking, which is not the most up-to-date system. (There is not yet an app, but I believe this is in development). Savings: Good value for money, ISAs have good savings rate in line with other providers. Reviewed on: 11th April 2025

My experience

Staff answer calls promptly, are helpful and friendly - real people! The Society has a policy to ensure the ratio of salaries between staff and CEO/management are fairer than most societies although the ratios are not as good as they were, which is a shame. Reviewed on: 31st March 2025
