Plain awful customer service - 30/35 minutes waiting in telephone queue.... avoid!

If you are planning to switch to M&S Bank to take advantage of their joining incentives - beware! I have had the most awful experience with this company after only a few days of switching over that I am already planning to switch right back to my previous bank. Typically, the wait time to speak to their customer service on the phone is 30 / 35 minutes which is time I can ill afford to lose in my busy day. Often I have hung up after waiting for this length of time as I just couldn't hang on any longer. Aghast at the most recent delays, I went online and left an electronic message to ask for someone to call me back as I had spent enough time on the phone waiting already. That was 2 weeks ago and I haven't received a call-back since. In my many years of using online banking, this service is the worst I've ever experienced. In order to balance things up here, I do accept they have been inundated with new account applications, but this should have been anticipated in advance and staff brought in to deal with the deluge of new business BEFORE the service levels went down the toilet. So if you are seduced by the prospect of the switch-over incentives, and you have lots of free time in your day to hang around for half an hour or longer on the phone just to speak with an agent, then you might be fine with it. I’m not and I’m voting with my feet and intend to switch back to my previous bank where the customer service has always been excellent. convenient banking and excellent customer service

I recently switched to M&S using their Switch and Save and I couldn't believe how easy it was. No fuss, good communication throughout, and once you get used to using the little M&S Pass you need for internet banking, it's all very straightforward. I cant fault their customer service - I can message them with any queries via my internet banking screen, which I couldn't with my previous bank, and paying in cheques is so convenient because their bank is open when their store is, so I don't have to take out of working hours to do my banking. I also like the incentive of a 5% interest savings account, and will definitely be setting that up too. Reviewed on: 15th March 2018

Great switching incentive

I mainly switched my current account to m&s due to their switching incentive which was excellent. £100 gift card which is topped up every month with £10 if I deposit £1000 and have 2 direct debits coming out. I've loved having the extra money to spend in their simply food shops! Reviewed on: 8th February 2018

Could do with more branches

i really like my bank account. i feel like it is very transparent with any charges and extremely fair - i have found some other banks can be all about recouping money. my only 2 gripes with the bank as a whole is there are only 2 branches within a 30 mile radius from me and the app does not let you do as much as other banking apps let you. The online banking log in is annoying

It's all good except for needing to generate a security code from a little calculator type machine every single time I want to log on to internet banking. They should tell you this before you get an account or have an option to turn it off for a particular device. Reviewed on: 4th February 2018

waste of my time

applied in 2016, heard nothing back, reapplied in 2017, they lost the application, sent loads of verified ID, kept getting emails asking for more info, kept sending more info, then told application expired, I wouldn't trust them with my money Reviewed on: 3rd February 2018

Taking far to long to set up account

It's almost two weeks since I made an online application I received an email after 2 days asking to phone them as they had a question needing answered which I did immediately.I waited over a week and phoned them back as I hadn't heard anything they told me they were still processing my application and should hear something in 48 hours 5 days later no word think I'll give them a miss and go somewhere else. No easy way to pay in cheques.

Have just moved to M&S bank and planning to pay cheques in using HSBC facilities. Told this was ok when opening account. First attempt to use this was declined and have now been told that only main HSBC banks will accept cheques for an M&S account. No good to me as this involves a 10 mile drive and £5 parking fee. Would never have swapped banks if they had been honest about this up front. Will be moving account again soon. Reviewed on: 12th January 2018
