I am extremely disappointed with the way Monzo has handled my situation. This has been one of the worst banking experiences I have dealt with. Funds were transferred from my other business account specifically to cover an urgent hospital bill and transportation to and from my hospital appointment. Monzo blocked access to the funds without giving me any clear explanation of when they would become available. I explained to Monzo staff on the phone that I was due to attend hospital for a procedure and that withholding access to my money was putting my appointment in jeopardy. I made the urgency and consequences very clear, but my pleas appeared to fall on deaf ears. With no access to the money I had transferred for transportation, I was left having to walk miles to the hospital and back. As if that were not distressing enough, I returned home expecting some indication that my funds would finally be released, only to be informed instead that Monzo intended to close my account and that I could potentially be waiting weeks for my own money to be returned. This is not simply about inconvenience. When a customer tells you that access to their own funds is directly affecting their ability to attend a hospital procedure, there should surely be some recognition of the seriousness and urgency of the circumstances. MONZO — WHERE IS THE COMPASSION? I understand that banks have regulatory and security obligations and may sometimes need to restrict accounts or investigate transactions. What I cannot understand is why a customer facing an urgent situation should apparently be left without meaningful information, a clear timeframe, or an effective way of addressing the immediate consequences. I have documented the chronology of what happened, including my communications with Monzo, and have escalated the matter through the appropriate channels and to my MP.
