Only recommended for archaeologists or historians

I took out my buy-to-let mortgage with Paragon Bank five years ago. Recently, they started demanding documents for repayments I made three years ago. The problem is not only that they are asking for very old documentation, but also how they handle the process. Instead of asking for everything in one go, they request documents bit by bit, which unnecessarily drags the matter out. Each time, they demand that I provide what they ask for within seven days and threaten legal action otherwise. Meanwhile, it typically takes them two to three weeks to reply to even the simplest questions. The whole experience has been stressful, inefficient and unreasonable. I would only recommend Paragon to archaeologists, historians, or anyone with exceptional ability to keep long-term physical records. For everyone else, if Paragon were the only mortgage option available, I would seriously consider not making the purchase at all. Reviewed on: 30th May 2026

Buyer Beware

Paragon offers a product fee to be added to the mortgage most kindly but then prevents you from making overpayments effectively making interest on their fee, how this isn't like the loan PPI of old I do not know. Also buyer beware they use their own Paragon employed surveyor so you are more than likely looking at a down valuation for their benefit. Reviewed on: 20th September 2024

Poor review process

I was given a decision in principle which included a credit check, they then decided three weeks later that my Credit score of 89.3% was not good enough , No explanation. At least I got my survey fee back. Reviewed on: 28th March 2022

Mortgage application.

Never apply for a mortgage with paragon! After taking the application fee of £299 they decide not to lend to you because they don't like the look of the building (nothing wrong with it) and keep your money. If they decide not to lend and you comply with all their terms they should not be able to keep your money. You have been warned - don't use Paragon! Reviewed on: 24th May 2021
