Review of the Ramsdens, Pawnbrokers:

Laughable!

1
Took a broken 9ct gold bracelet to scrap in. Looked online and scrap 9ct gold was about £22 a gram. I knew I wouldn't get that much, but I was shocked at how much I was offered. 10 grams and I was offered £76. £7.60 a gram! I laughed at the woman and took the bracelet around the corner to a jewellers, was given £160. Don't sell your gold to this company. They are robbing people, and probably the most needy people who might be struggling and are forced to sell some of there family gold . (Ramsdens, Whitley Bay branch) Reviewed on: 3rd September 2024

Rip off!

1
Called into local Ramsden’s today with 16gm of scrap 9ct gold, odd earrings, signet ring and broken chains. I was told todays prices were between £11-14 a gram even though online prices are showing £13-£17, so I asked for a quote anyway. Staff weighed the gold and came back with a price of £111, probably not expecting me to work out that that is just £6.93 a gram, when asked why so low I was told that ‘it was because the items were in pieces’, surely the clue is in the description ‘scrap’ gold, which is going to be smelted!! Complete rip off, so said no thank you and left. Reviewed on: 18th March 2022

This company will rip you off with all your gold prices. As a previous employee I know all there underhanded tactics. Take it somewhere else. Avoid. Reviewed on: 28th February 2022

THE EMPLOYEES ARE THIEVES

1
I know the sister of one of the staff in the Hartlepool branch the lady who I will not name from King Oswy told me that on her shift they asked the customer how much gold they have and when they say I do not know they tell you less grams than you actually have and customers cannot see the scales. And ask you if you have had prices from elsewhere this is a tactic just in case you would know the revaluation of your goal Reviewed on: 23rd February 2022

Gold Price Goes Up- Ramsdens Pay Less !?!

1
Got higher prices for gold pawned and/or sold to Ramsdens a few years ago! How can they justify this? 2 or 3 years ago when the Gold Spot Price was around £32 per gram, they paid £15.50 for 9 carat. Today the Gold Spot Price was around £45 per gram and I was offered £13.50 for 9 carat and £33 for 22 24 carat gold! Did not Sell. Going to check out other options. Reviewed on: 19th February 2022

Went on to sell my old wedding ring.i did check on line regarding its weight and got a value of 126.00 so thought I would take to Ramsdens in morely as they were local to me.bad mistake the lady there was not helpful she said it was 19ct and offered me £55.00? I refused and said I got an on line offer for over double that amount ..she just shrugged her shoulders! I posted my ring to the online people and got 126.40 for this less my postage of 6.00..120.00.... Don't ever use these people ! Reviewed on: 9th August 2021

Disappointing

1
Was in to sell some euros I had found in an old purse. Asked for my mobile number, when I asked why it was required I was told that if they were ordering money for me they would send a text. I pointed out that as they were buying the money and not selling it to me and they did not require my mobile. Service became unpleasant. I will not be going back to Ramsdens and would not recommend them. Reviewed on: 22nd July 2021
