Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

Relief on finding stepchange

I was so releived when I found stepchange. I was floundering around, not really knowing what I was doing.I know it`s hard to believe but I owed so much on credit cards because I ddn`t realise only paying the minumum amount, is not reducing amount you owe. Reviewed on: 6th May 2026

Managed to combine all my debts into one monthly payment which took so much pressure off me. Stepchange have been really great. Helped me so much at one of the most stressful times. They don’t make you feel silly or ashamed for getting into a pickle, they’ve only ever been kind and wanted to help, literally cannot fault them. Reviewed on: 6th May 2026

The DMP allowed reduce my debt from £50k to £36k

By 2010, total debt of over £50,000 had resulted due to inventions, securing three of my UK Patents and running around dishonest businessmen in Canada, India, the UK and the USA. Due to my worsening illnesses. I had setup my debt management plan in June 2010 and due to specialist advice of this volunteerism staff with the former management of the public service "StepChange". Due to the the similar expertise of the present staff, I am able to keep on meeting my monthly repayments over the last 16 years out of my limited earned pension and still alive and have been providing for my respectable living in a rented accommodation.
