COVER MY BREAKDOWN. Don’t bother

When you need a breakdown service you’re most probably at a low point, miles from home and wanting help, cover my breakdown are not the company for you, they hide behind small print and won’t get you home, national service isn’t what it it sounds like, they only take you within 25 miles of a named garage or address. You Get What You Pay For... Rip Off Merchants!

Absolute joke! Should know the price was too good to be true - company is fine if you don't ever need assistance but when you need help, you're screwed! Tyre burst due to potholes so called for assistance. New car so only has temp repair kit - advised 'they don't do that'. Was advised they could send a tow truck or that I could arrange mobile tyre service and would be reimbursed up to £50. Opted for second option as easiest. £150. Have just been refunded £10! AVOID absolute con merchants

I had a flat tyre in my old car, she asked how it happened I said no idea I mean there are pot holes everywhere BOOM that’s what they were waiting for, I said pot hole so they refused to come out and change the tyre/tow to a garage/do anything I had to pay £250 to get a tyre service to come out and replace. I carried the cover over to my new car, stupid me. My car cut out while driving, I was told up to 90 min wait I said I’m blocking a single road cars can’t get past which according to her made this ‘an emergency’ so they’d get there much quicker than the 90 minutes. I’d originally booked it to go to my home because by the time they turned up the garage would be close. As I was waiting I rang the garage, they said they’d leave the gates open and look at it first thing. I rang back recovery to say this and could it go to the garage, no she then said because I’d said my address it’s going there, I explained she refused I said I have the top cover she said no, I said that I have nationwide cover she then said I had to be 25 miles away from my house to have my car towed to a different location, what?! I was also told that because I said it was an emergency as I was blocking a road that also meant my delivery address couldn’t be changed, an emergency?! The on hold music says 50 mins wait but can be 90 I was 1 hour and 50 minutes for someone to turn up and that’s the emergency response?! I was then quoted ‘from £125’ I rang to book this it then jumped to £450 I said it’s the truck that has the crane attachment as it’s hybrid car oh that will be extra, of course it will, I then had to pay £850 to get it towed from my home address to the garage which was 21 miles away which they could’ve done originally when I called them and I wouldn’t have had to pay anything. True colours revealed when you call them broken down...

True colours revealed when you call them broken down at the side of the road and they won't do a thing unless you give them the name and address of a garage within 25miles that's willing to look at your car there and then. Reviewed on: 28th June 2024

AVOID, AVOID, AVOID

While covered by this so called insurance, they refused to recover my wife’s car with a clutch fault as it was over 40 miles. Complete waste of money. AVOID Reviewed on: 5th June 2024

Useless company

Stranded me with an 18 month old baby after we waite...

Stranded me with an 18 month old baby after we waited 3 hours for a breakdown vehicle which couldn't accept the baby. No information about this whatsoever despite having told them several times that i had him in the car. Absolute disgrace of a company, avoid at all costs!! Reviewed on: 5th April 2024

Worse recovery company after the AA.

This company will not only take forever to answer the phone. They will then go into give you totally made up recovery times, and/or do absolutely anything at all to get out of recovering you. I would say they are almost as bad as the AA. Reviewed on: 27th November 2023

Do not use - pay for recovery

I broke down twice, 50 days after each other and was made to pay upfront for the recovery (costing £250) and send proof of the previous repair before any recovery could happen. Despite there being similarities with the fault, first my oil filter came loose and secondly the timing chain and crankshaft broke (so the oil light was on in both occasions), the problem is clearly different. As there has been substantial damage to the engine after the timing chain and crankshaft has broken, I cannot repair the car and am scrapping it instead. Since I cannot provide proof of the second repair, I cannot get reimbursed for this recovery. During the breakdown the customer service was unsupportive, I felt lucky to keep my receipts in my car and to have good enough signal to be able to send an email. And feel that throughout the call, I was not taken seriously, made to feel like the situation was my own fault and that I had planned to breakdown. I have been a customer of covermybreakdown for 3 years and these two occasions are the only time I have had to call out breakdown. Unfortunately, they happened 50 days after each other meaning I had to pay upfront to be recovered, which caused a huge amount of stress at an already stressful time. This policy does nothing other than prey on people in unfortunate situations who have no other option. I am a young female, and was on the side of a main road, alone, a long distance from any public transport. I pay for breakdown cover to protect me in these instances and to help when clearly I have no other option. Due to this policy, I do not feel protected at all. Their website rightly describes breaking down as a "nightmare situation... one that can be a scary and stressful situation" - it even goes on to suggest you will "be there when [customers] need" and that customers "won't be left stranded on the roadside". Clearly they understand the difficulties of breaking down, however, have created a policy that makes the situation even more stressful to those who unfortunately find themselves in that "nightmare situation" twice in a short period of time. I feel completely let down by this cover, and their statement suggesting that your customers "won't be left stranded on the roadside" is obviously completely fictitious, as if I did not pay, I would have been stranded. I felt like I had no choice but to pay upfront. I do not recommend their cover at all - get AA or RAC that actually values their customers and helps to keep them safe when broken down. Extremely disappointing

I been with them since 2020,, last 3 years I never made any claim,, on this February I call them for jump start due to extreme weather,, they came to my home it's too few for start the car,, since that I no issues about jump start,, last night about midnight my car 2 tyre bust and I was 15 miles way from home,, I called them they asking for last claim battery service report,, which I don't need it ,, because battery is fine garage guy said ,,when is snowing any car battery can die, because I told them I don't have receipt,, they will charge me, If they come and rescue me which is £120,, and didn't pay them they didn't came,, and I had to spent all night inside the car,, which is worst day of my life,,, this worst ever experience my life,, I'm driving uk 20 years now I never face this kind of situation Reviewed on: 7th September 2023
