By Miles charge a fixed cost that covers a car while it’s parked. The rest is based on the actual miles driven. Customers can either plug in the matchbox-sized Miles Tracker, or for newer cars, you can connect By Miles directly with your car’s mileometer.

Cheap Insurance. Great customer service.

By Miles are pretty much the cheapest car insurance I have ever had and I have been driving for over 30 years. It even went down a little this year! The customer service is excellent, they get back to you really quickly, you can reply to their emails (no ‘no reply’ emails and no web forms when you want to ask a question). The app makes it easy to disconnect your tracker for MOT’s or repairs. All round great service. I would recommend them to all low mileage drivers. Reviewed on: 18th August 2025

I like that if I do fewer miles than I expected to, I get a refund, also that I'm able to see mileage I've used for each trip. Fortunately I haven't needed to make a claim, so far, so can't comment on Bymiles service for when dealing with a claim. Reviewed on: 18th August 2025

By Miles have been brilliant. The customer service team are excellent. When I had an emergency operation causing me to be bed bound for weeks, causing my car battery to die and my tracker to lose connection, the customer service team where really helpful and reassuring when I got the automatic notification warning me to plug in my tracker or be charged the maximum each day. They were really helpful in reassuring me that I would not be charged. Every time I have had to co tact the customer service team they have been excellent. The entire concept of by miles insurance is fantastic for me as I drive so rarely as I chose to walk to work etc, and to have this brilliant concept backed by a brilliant support team is amazing. Been using by miles for a couple of years now and would recommend to anyone looking for a great company to deal with .no pressure phone calls or any pushy sales people. Frome getting quote to accepting was all so easy ,using the app to add extra miles is so convenient and easy . Also has a diagnostic checker on the app that is very useful .
