Collingwood learner driver insurance scam

1
Beware of Collingwood learner driver insurance. They charge a £40 'cancellation fee' when you pass your test. As the point of a learner driver is to learn how to drive and then pass your test, you cannot avoid this charge. This cancellation fee is apparently buried in their terms of business document and is not highlighted on their website when you buy the product. In process of making a compliant and will be off to the financial ombudsman to call this type of scam out. Reviewed on: 27th February 2023

Hidden fees for cancelling early and no refund of premium when you do

1
I have given one star as I can not give none. Apparently if you cancel your insurance early you get charged a fee for it. I got a text message saying I had to contact recoveries because of a shortfall on the premium when I had paid in full and cancelled with a month left. Seems like a con to me. It's in your T&C's so beware people. Reviewed on: 13th January 2023

Hidden Fees

Unfair cancellation fees Absolutely robbing young people. Cancelled policy which had been paid in full.policy still had 4K in the to run on. The company claimed that they get to retain 90% and then had the audacity to charge an extra £20 cancellation fee. Reporting to trading standards and also the financial ombudsman. The terms are not set out clearly. Reviewed on: 13th January 2023

Beware hidden fees

1
If you dare to pass your test while driving on a Collingwood annual learner policy, you will be charged £35! Apparently this is in the terms and conditions but as far as I'm concerned it is a forced hidden fee. Collingwood required that after passing your test, you inform them and they cancel the policy. As you have chosen (??) to cancel your policy, you then get charged a cancellation fee. This is ridiculous. I do not recommend taking this insurance out as you will get penalised once you pass your test. Reviewed on: 9th January 2023

Hidden charges

1
Be aware, if you take out a learner policy and pass your test you will be charged at least £35 by this company.. I had paid for a 12 month policy up front and son passed with about 4 months left.. they do not refund the unused months and when I rang to get a quote for him as a qualified driver they told me I was cancelling the policy and need to pay the charge.. I argued that I wasn’t cancelling and they’d already had all the premium but they just refer you to their t&c’s.. however, it is not clear in those that a learner driver passing their test whilst insured on a learners cover invokes an extra charge… rip off and underhand business practice.. I would never recommend this company and would never use them again Reviewed on: 30th November 2022

Shameful organisation!!

1
Save yourself the headache and DO NOT give this company any business. Never have I encountered rudeness like i encountered from these clowns. Huffing and puffing when asking questions and laughing down the phone - utter disgrace and the fact that they dont even acknowledge that behaviour speaks volumes about the type of organisation they are, DISGUSTING! They sell a learner policy that becomes invalid once the learner is no longer a learner AND they charge a fee to cancel that policy AND they retain the entire months premium, irrespective of whether it has been an active policy for only 3 days or not. Shocking business model. Complaint against them currently with FOS and the Insurance Ombudsman. Reviewed on: 24th November 2022

Complete scam

1
My son passed after 7 months driving so I phoned Collingwood to let them know. I was told that whilst we'd get a small rebate (20%) for unused insurance, we had to pay a cancellation fee so owed them money. How can that be right, greedy insurance company. Reviewed on: 15th November 2022
