Ethical, and so Supportive !

I love saving with a building society that does specific, practical things for the environment, and for housing (both so badly needed). Ethical - no investments in bombs or fossil fuels! The people who work for it are lovely! When I ring up to ask questions, I always get patient, friendly help and clear answers. Sure, the interest rate offered is modest - but this is outweighed by the peace of mind Ecology Building Society offers its customers. Reviewed on: 10th November 2024

Ecology and ethics personified

I've been a member for over 18 years and pleased to support a financially viable business ahead of its time in terms of its core principals of ethical savings and lending criteria. This was, and continues to be, alongside its ethos of facilitating the improvement and maintenance of our ecological footprint. Ecology's administrative staff are always courteous, helpful and it is a real bonus to be able to speak to someone in person rather than the ubiquitous online interactions. Great savings great products

I increased my monthly saver account and went online and all went incredibly well. Staff were on hand to help me out when there was a password glitch and I couldn’t recommend them highly, especially when their pioneering work in changing the housing stock towards much greater sustainability. These people have been family friends since 1984.

Apart from the feeling of success that comes with knowing that your money is helping with the climate crisis, rather than the reverse, Ecology is unsurpassed for being there to help you. They have been known to 'phone this house to make a huge effort to get my income tax payment made before I was penalised for lateness; although of course it meant taking money out of their account. They always answer the 'phone promptly. And, though I have chosen "Savings" as my topic, this was the building society that would give me, as a single parent, a mortgage on a smallholding when nobody else would. It's always encouraging to see in the newsletter the homes and families that have been supported to live sustainably; but these are people who have put thier money where their mouth is, and constructed a sustainable office building - a beacon for us all. Fair return and inspiring impact

Ever since I opened my Ecology Building Society savings account I have been impressed. They have continued to give me a fair return on my savings with their 90 Day Notice account at time of unprecedented low savings rates, rewarding me for my customer loyalty and, through their tiered interest rates, for the value of my savings. My experience of their customer service has also been very good from the get go. I love being able to support lending to eco-build and retrofit projects through my savings and am inspired by the stories I read about the Building Society's mortgage customers. It's also great to see the social equity and cohesion fostered through their projects. The communications I receive are very engaging - it's very rare for me to read bank and building society reports but I read theirs! I hope that the Ecology Building Society continues to grow so that it's postive impact can be even bigger. Reviewed on: 7th April 2021
