The right way to run a bank

It is not often one can feel positive and encouraged by the banking sector. For me it has been more a case of necessity and the devil you know... My Community Bank feels and acts like it says on the tin. A bank whose mission and business model is to serve the community. Hopefully a model that other businesses can emulate. Ethical savings

I decided to invest with My Community Bank just over a year ago, as I was looking for an ethical bank with a good customer service record. I certainly haven't been disappointed; the initial rate I was offered on a one year fixed savings account was good and when it came to an end this spring, I was offered an even better rate, so was happy to re-invest my money. Any time I have needed to phone through to customer services, I've got through quickly and my query has been dealt with efficiently by really helpful, friendly staff. Credit Unions v High St Banks, which is the most ethical?

I have invested in My Community Bank for several years because I truly believe that it represents its customers and communities to the highest possible standards. In my opinion, High St Banks only ever focus on making massive profits for shareholders and disregard the customers and communities which helped build their various brands over the years. This is clearly evident in the mass closure of bank branches and loss of jobs, and staff which were experienced in understanding the wants and needs of customers and local communities. Also, whilst I agree that technology is fantastic, and has enabled customers to choose how to conduct their financial affairs, the Banks are using this to further inflate their profits as they withdraw from the High St without thought about the impact this has on communities in towns, cities and villages throughout the country.
