Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

Fantastic service!

3 years ago I realised I was beginning to struggle to make ends meet. I contacted my two daughters and went through things with them. My elder daughter works as a manager for the homeless and people struggling with their finances, she always recommends Stepchange and suggested the same to me. She and my younger daughter both helped me set up with yourselves, which was so easy to do and you were incredibly helpful. Stress Free

For years I was paying a dept management company to help me with my dept.. What I stupidly didn’t know was out of the £120 I was paying them they were taking nearly 50% for themselves, I was so angry with myself for realising this is what they do. I was on with one the companies I owes money to and told them about my and the management company looking after it, they told me about Stepchange, I phone them and as soon as I heard from the Stepchange’s employee he put me at ease right away, he help me setup my account and told me every penny I pay them goes towards paying off my debt. When think of the money I paid this management company I felt sick, I said to myself that’s the past forget about it so much stress has been taken away from me as soon as I started using Stepchange’s. Simple solution of our debt problem

Handled our debt problem rapidly simply and efficiently. Eventually stoped the harassment of persistent threatening mail and phone calls. Handled my wife’s death with sympathy and simplicity. Overall the best course of action it was possible to take. Reviewed on: 9th May 2026
