Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

I spent every night for months trying to make everything work money wise for my situation but it never would, I was crying every night and buying for food and fuel on credit cards. These people where my last resort, that was my downfall. They should have been the first place I went to! If I had I would be in less debt but trying to admit you can't do it anymore is the hardest part. Without these people my family would be homeless and I don't know where we would be. It took two months to sort my account out and get up and running and the hardest part for me was phoning up and talking to a different person each time but otherwise it was all positive. Kind, calm, non-judgemental and knowledgeable.

The staff are fantastic - I was very weepy and anxious when I finally got in touch with them, and they were so kind, non-judgemental, helpful and calm. They have made the process of sorting out my debt really simple. They explain everything, and are supremely patient. I recommended them to a friend years ago, and they were great then too. Experience with StepChange is really good.
