Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

Great support

Stepchange has helped me in what was one of the most stressful things in my life as I was under a lot of pressure form creditors sending letter after letter, a ccj and lots of debt gained when I was in an abusive relationship.I felt beyond lost, I could not sleep, I could not enjoy any moment of my life really and I was really struggling mentally. Nearly everyone I spoke to in SC have been amazing, understanding and for once I felt really listened too. I am now still full of debt, worse credit score than ever but I can sleep again at night and I can enjoy life finally! Reviewed on: 6th May 2026

Rents and cost of living carried on going up and up and my wage did not. Ended up having to live on a credit card and gradually got in debt. I'm still paying it off now for a few years but it's manageable. There is light at the end of the tunnel and life will change for you. Excellent!

After being in debt for a number of years and not knowing where to turn i called Stepchange for advice. They were incredible, offering empathy and understanding into my situation. Offering me choices so i felt in control and set up a debt management plan that was sustainable and affordable. The pressure of being in debt for so many years was instantly reduced. I felt in control and happy i had made the right decision.
