Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

I seperated from my husband and ended up with some debts thay I couldn't afford. I reached out to stepchnage who were super helpful and arranged breathing space for me with my creditors and then arranged a debt management plan which was a godsend as its meant I can pay people back but also pay my bills and support my kids. Brilliant service highly recommend

Brilliant service I was in a bad space with my mental health and money problems were causing additional stress, a friend recommended StepChange and I thought I would try and work out my financial situation and they were extremely helpful and supportive and took care of everything and took a huge load off my shoulders. I pay now to reduce my total debt rather than minimum payments which was effectively interest on that debt. Reviewed on: 28th May 2026
